God’s love can spark ideas! After purchasing 36 acres of untouched, serene land in Ponder,Tx, LaWanna & Chris knew their purchase was destined for something special. Their original intention for the land was to build housing subdivisions and employ their family to manage and run the operation. Shortly after their purchase, her youngest daughter suggested building a wedding and event venue, and it was an idea they could not part from – so with the celebrated purpose of bringing people together to showcase Jesus’s love for us and each other, and families uniting under His banner becoming one, The Nest was born. Now, we get the privilege of being in the housing business in a different way by hosting the most special day in someones life, where they are ultimately choosing to start their new family! It is an amazing honor and privilege to know what we feel God has called us to, and cannot wait to share our love for The Nest with you!
Knowing that she wanted to incorporate and honor her biggest inspiration, her Grandmother Ruth, LaWanna decided to dedicate and name the land “Ruth Farms” after her.”The Nest,” came from LaWanna’s husband, because he tells her they are two love birds who have built their own nest together. While The Nest is the first project LaWanna and Chris are taking on with these 36 acres, They have plans to build farmhouses for guests to stay, flower gardens to walk through, plan to have cattle and farms animals on the land in the future.
Since my youth, loving and serving people has always been a passion of mine. I knew at a young age that fashion/ customer service would be the path for me and throughout my career have worked for myriad of retailers including Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Anthropologie. I set my sights on New York City and graduated with a business degree from Laboratory Institute of Merchandising. Texas was home though, so after 2 years living in NYC, interning with Bergdorf Goodman and ABC Home & Carpet, I came back and started my career with Anthropologie working as a visual merchandiser. Over a 5 year span, this path set me on a course that helped define my passion for working with people while helping them accomplish and execute their vision. Being surrounded by a high level customer service and excellence for over more than a decade, I believe has helped prepare me for my role and calling now as the venue director of my families wedding and event venue The Nest. I am so excited to have the opportunity to meet you and introduce you to what we believe is one of the most beautiful venues in DFW. Please feel the liberty to reach out if you have any questions and I look forward to meeting you at The Nest!”
