Summer | 150 Guest Count | Inside

The beginning of Summer is always filled with joy and romance, and May 1st, for Evie and Drew was no exception. Hues of soft white, peach, and robins egg blue carried a whimsical and timeless feeling throughout the venue. With an affinity for detail and beauty, their reception will remain truly one of our favorites that we have seen at The Nest. To learn more about Evie and Drew’s love story and their journey to the alter, we would invite you to lean in and read further!
N | Tell us, how did you and Drew meet?
E | “Drew and I met in Jamaica on a three-day reward trip. Drew pointed me out across the room – literally – to a mutual connection who then introduced us. We spent the entire trip talking and getting to know each other. When it was over, I went home to Atlanta and Drew went to Houston. Our communication became constant – texting, FaceTiming and calling at all hours. The communication turned into monthly trips across the country to visit each other and our families. Finally, in December of 2018, Drew moved to Atlanta so we could start our life together (in person!) with our sweet Australian Shepherd, Doak. Since then, we recently relocated to Dallas and are so excited for this new chapter in Texas!”
N | How did you know he was the one?
E | “Oh gosh, I remember telling my roommate that if I started dating Drew, we would get married. I just knew! But Drew has the best energy and heart that resounded so well with me. We just became great partners and I couldn’t imagine this crazy life without him.”
N | Tell us about your proposal / engagement story!
E | “While Drew and I were long distance, we started creating a bucket list. Things we wanted to do together, places we wanted to go, accomplishments we wanted to have. Jokingly, I added “Steal Things” to our list one night, meaning “steal his last name.” Fast forward to November 2019, both of our families were in town for Thanksgiving in Atlanta. We decided to do one final group dinner on November 29th. Drew went ahead with his parents to grab a drink, and I waited back with my Mom and my brother. When we got to the restaurant, Drew was nowhere in sight! His Mom directed me outside, where Drew was waiting with a gorgeous leather-bound book. Inside, he’d transcribed every item from our bucket list with corresponding photos of us checking off the items we’ve completed. Finally, I flipped to the page that said “Steal Things” and Drew was down on one knee. I was so shocked I forgot to even look at the ring! It was the perfect proposal for us and we got to celebrate with both families in town after.”
N| Describe your experience planning your wedding at The Nest?
E| “We loved The Nest instantly! I was an Equestrian for most of my life and wanted to play on that experience without it being overly rustic. The Nest was a perfect blend of an open backdrop that is a little rustic with modern flair. Our experience was great – Whitney was our Venue Director and she was quick to answer questions and help me figure out how to bring my ideas to life.”
N | What inspired you and lead you to create the wedding of your dreams?
E | “I planned weddings for several years but planning my own was a totally different deal! Our theme was watercolor + hints of acrylic. We loved using natural tones of cement and wood complimented by big peonies and pops of blue. Even our wedding invitations were water colored and our ghost chairs were acrylic to lean into the traditional meets a little modern theme.
For dresses – I wanted something timeless with a modern spin. I chose an ivory Kate McDonald dress that we did custom sleeve changes too. I wore my Mom’s Blue Topaz engagement ring that I have been obsessed with since I was little on my right hand as my something borrowed & my something blue. For my girls, we went with taupe Show Me Your Mumu dresses to really let my bridesmaids shine & keep the dresses ageless.
Our cake was one of my favorite parts! Drew and I share the same birthday, so our wedding cake was a nod to our shared date. It was made by Jenny Layne Bakery and modeled off of a MilkBar Birthday Cake.”
N | Looking back, what are some of your favorite memories of your wedding day?
E | “I have so many favorite memories from the first look to the EPIC dance party – our band was amazing! – but one of the most special moments was my little brother, Christian, officiating our ceremony. He was funny and heartfelt and it was so personal. I was SO proud of him and it was such a special moment to have my brother marry us.”
We love you Drew & Evie!
The best is yet to come!
